TEHRAN — The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, has warned the United States against violating its commitments in any potential memorandum of understanding or agreement with the Islamic Republic.
"Commitments made must be kept. No ifs, no buts, no excuses," Qalibaf wrote in a post on the social media platform X, as reported by Iranian state media, Press TV, on Saturday (June 13, 2026).
"For future agreements, there is no other way. You reap what you sow," he added.
Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined the framework of a potential memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Washington. If realized, this MoU could lead to a final agreement between the two nations.
Araghchi stated that the proposed memorandum would formally end the conflict across all fronts, including Lebanon. Furthermore, it would establish a foundation for negotiations regarding the lifting of sanctions, Iran's nuclear program, and regional security arrangements.
Speaking in an interview with the state television broadcaster IRIB, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Saturday (June 13, 2026), Araghchi noted that the document, referred to as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, would mark the official end of the war.
"The end of the war will be announced on all fronts, including Lebanon," he said.
Araghchi explained that the second phase of negotiations is expected to last for 60 days, though it could be extended if both parties are satisfied with the progress achieved.
However, the official noted that if sufficient progress is not made, the process will not result in a final agreement. In that case, he added, the situation would revert to its previous state prior to the MoU.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also recalled past instances where opposing parties failed to comply with previous agreements.
"They seize every opportunity to break their promises," he stated.
A day earlier, Qalibaf had warned the US against launching a new wave of aggression or targeting energy infrastructure. He emphasized that Iran's retaliatory operations had left US President Donald Trump confused.
